“I hate doing chores!” “My new toy just broke!” “It’s raining outside!” Emma bitterly spoke. “My parents are mean!” “My friends are away!” “I can’t ride my bike!” “What a terrible day!” Emma rushed to her room And climbed on her bed “Dreams are just better!” She angrily said. And she slept... and she dreamt In a slumber so deep That no one who saw her Believed it was sleep. “Emma wake up!” Whispered her mom, But Emma was flying Right over the sun. “Wake up, my love!” Said dad preoccupied But Emma was sailing Along with the tide. Her brother came in And jumped on the bed: “Emma, come on! Let’s go on the sled!” But Emma was running Bare feet on the sand And had no intention Of taking his hand. Her cousins and friends And teachers stopped by, But Emma was eating The world’s largest pie! The doctor arrived With his somber look And solemnly said: “Give me my book!” He searched and he looked But nothing he found No potions, no pills, No magic compound. And Emma kept dreaming Of marvelous things, Of dragons and fairies, Of treasures and kings. One day in her dreams She heard her mom cry While wistfully singing Her first lullaby. Her brother was there, She could hear him too, Asking her dad: “What more can we do?” Her father was sighing And tapping his foot, And Emma remembered That dad was a hoot! Life in her dreams was surprising and wild: No rules, no chores, Only wonder and smiles. But in all her adventures One thing was not right, She was always alone From dawn to midnight. She thought of her mom Hugging her close, Her sweet little brother Tickling her nose. Her teachers and friends Came to her mind, And the words of her dad Who was always so kind. She looked at the dragon, The fairy and the knight “I have to go now,” she said “I’ll see you tonight!” She opened her eyes and took a long yawn, Her family’s sorrow In one instant was gone. “Little brother come here!” Said Emma with joy “What do you say we go play with your favorite toy?” Her family ecstatic Rushed by her side And she felt all their love Quite stupefied! Her parents were crying And kissing her face, Her brother was laughing And the family embraced. So Emma realized Between a hug and a kiss That she already had a life full of bliss! She needed no dragons Nor world’s largest pies, She had all that she wanted Right in front of her eyes. The End Waiting to be illustrated and published :)
